Amsterdam Ageing Cohort (AAC)

Research project

The Amsterdam Ageing Cohort (AAC) is a naturalistic cohort study which aims to improve diagnostics in older patients and gain insight into the process of ageing in patients with somatic and/or psychiatric disorders. Together with Prof. M. Muller of the Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc, department of internal medicine, the old age psychiatry and neuropsychiatric department of GGZ inGeest performs this study. The specific aim of GGZ inGeest is to gain insight into development of cognitive impairment in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders during the process of ageing.

Patients aged 50 years and older referred to the “geheugen dagscreening” of our department will be asked to participate in the AAC . Endpoints of the study are:

– Activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (iADL)
– Physical and cognitive performance
– Use of psychotropic and somatic medication
– Quality of life
– Admission to psychiatric or somatic clinic
– Mortality

These data will be collected in the context of standard patient care. We expect to include at least 80 patients during 2 years of inclusion at our site.
